Competitively-bid program seeks to define advanced technologies to enhance performance of GPS receivers in combat and pinpoint geolocation of jamming sources.
ANAHEIM, CA - November 3, 2005 Interstate Electronics Corporation (IEC), a wholly owned subsidiary of L-3
Communications Corporation, announced the receipt of a major contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Wright Patterson AFB, New Jersey, to study advancements in antijamming and GPS receiver technologies, and develop a proof-of-concept GPS receiver to demonstrate the effectiveness of the emerging new technologies. The two-part Program consists of a twelve-month study to review current GPS receiver and antijamming technologies. In Phase Two, Interstate Electronics will design, build, and test a proof-of-concept GPS receiver, which will integrate the hardware and software technologies that deliver superior performance under jamming conditions.
“Successful antijamming systems require a sophisticated understanding of GPS technology and interference techniques,”
comments Jim Grace, VP of Business Development. “This program will identify and demonstrate the superior effectiveness of the advanced systems and software IEC has developed.”
The Contract supports the AFRL’s Navigation Warfare Electronic Support Measures (ESM) Terminal (NET) program. The NET program builds on IEC’s success with the SIRIAS program successfully completed for the AFRL. The technologies to be reviewed include Deep Integration, FaSTAP™, beamforming, chip-scale atomic clocks, YMCA receivers and software-defined radio. New technologies will be developed for the identification, enumeration, and characterization of jamming sources utilizing the existing characteristics of IEC existing multi-element GPS receiver architectures. The results will be integrated in full mesh network using IEC PINPOINT technologies, which determines the geolocation radio frequency sources.
