L-3 Communications, Interstate Electronics Corporation Hits Production Levels with SAASM Products

6200 TruTrak GPS Receivers Shipped; Software Installed by the KDP Loading Installation Facility

Anaheim, CA, June 1, 2004Interstate Electronics Corporation (IEC), a wholly owned subsidiary of L-3 Communications Corporation (NYSE:LLL), announces that IEC’s TruTrak receiver modules have made the successful transition to full rate production in 2004 and are being used in combat operations overseas. This transition represents a significant step forward towards meeting the DoD mandate to make SAASM the security standard for all new U.S. military GPS platforms. Working with IEC, Boeing has made the U.S. Air Force’s CSEL the first SAASM program to pass MultiService Operation Test and Evaluation (MOT&E) and have successfully moved SAASM from concept to production. In a completely different role, IEC TruTrak GPS receivers are being used by General Atomics to support the GPS functions of their LYNX™ synthetic aperture radar (SAR) / ground-moving target indicator (GMTI) radar system for use in their adverse-weather global surveillance system.

Over 6,200 of L-3 Communications, Interstate Electronics Corporation’s SAASM-based GPS receivers have been cycled through the KDP Loading and Installation Facility (KLIF), at Robins AFB, Georgia. IEC's GPS SAASM-based TruTrak receivers are designed to be integrated into a variety of platforms including handheld devices, weapons and projectiles. The SAASM-based receivers are built to survive a 15KG gunshot shock while maintaining exact performance requirements, including precision timing within 10 microseconds.

In July of 2002, IEC was the first SAASM manufacturer to demonstrate compliance with all new requirements in the SAASM design as set forth by the GPS Joint Program Office. IEC was also the first to create a user-installable SAASM kit for its GPS Satellite Constellation Simulator.

“IEC’s TruTrak line of products has proven to be successful and beneficial in many GPS receiver related programs,” said Robert Huffman, president of IEC. “IEC is pleased to continue moving forward with its TruTrak product line for advanced GPS systems.”
