L-3 Communications, Interstate Electronics Corporation Celebrates Tenth Anniversary of Successful GPS Technology

ANAHEIM, CA, March 30, 2006 Interstate Electronics Corporation (IEC), a wholly owned subsidiary of L-3 Communications Corporation, announced today ten successful years in GPS technology development. The company initially proposed the development of a SAASM integrated circuit module for GPS-based systems in 1996 when it made a presentation to the GPS Joint Program Office. It was subsequently given "authorized SAASM developer status". Today, the company offers a number of SAASM-based components and systems for advanced military platforms. The initial GPS team of four now numbers over 30 engineers and technicians.

Historically, IEC became the first supplier in the industry to achieve full SAASM security approval by the JPO and provided the SAASM on the very first successful guided projectile test shots. The company also received the Technical Innovation Award from Aviation Week and Space Technology magazine for its SAASM module, code named XFACTOR. Contractually, IEC was selected by Boeing to provide SAASMs for the GPS/JPOs 'Pathfinder' SAASM program (CSEL) and was the first to field SAASMs for the warfighter (GBRAT). The company has shipped over 21,000 SAASMs thought the KLIF (Key Data Processor (KDP) Loading and Installation Facility).

“The dedication and innovation of the GPS technology group has contributed to successful growth of the company and advanced the technology for the entire industry,” stated Bob Huffman, President of IEC.
